Collaboration

Back from Key Biscayne;  The Pankey Institute and a collection of the worlds brightest minds and most dedicated hearts and hands toward the resolution of the insidious and deadly Obstructive Sleep Apnea.   An amazing collaborative effort to disseminate, ‘cross-pollinate’ ideas, technique and experience.   A group of selfless individuals, long hours, but a tireless enthusiasm that can only come with like minds and fresh ideas.  Sorting out my notes will take a long time.  Very enthusiastic, I have a couple lectures scheduled at DHMC this month, one for the sleep docs and one to the dental staff.  Can’t wait to share what I’ve learned.

January 1 2011

Researched a little into some of the OSA risk factors and their associations today.   Wondered a little about Cushings syndrome, nuchal and central obesity and the increased hormonal effect of peritoneal adipose tissue and how they all affect an increase in OSA predisposition.  The ratio in measurements of hip vs waist are beginning to play a role as indicators of OSA, I wonder if GERD is coincidentally comorbid with a high delta of these parameters; it seems a logical assumption.  Will pick up my sisters Netter Anatomy text; need some review before the upcoming collaboration in Florida, particularly the dissection part.
